Autism From the Rain?

Well, well, given that I live in the “rainy northwest” corner of the USA, this headline running on Yahoo’s new page today caught my attention.  This past spring I posted on this issue, wondering if autism rates were higher in the Pacific northwest.  My curiosity was due to Wired Magazine’s article on high autism rates in Silicon Valley which I extrapolated to the Seattle area:

Did you know Wired Magazine ran an article (The Geek Syndrome) discussing findings of autism rates much higher than average among children of high tech workers in Silicon Valley? Other research has uncovered similar links.

The Pacific Northwest, especially Seattle, Portland and Vancouver, British Columbia are high tech communities and hold the possibility of higher rates of autism.

Here is the URL to the Yahoo article:  http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081104/sc_nm/us_autism_rain
