I am a pretty spiritual person and not afraid to admit it. I am actually very happy about it and glad to share it when someone expersses an interest. Consequently it is only natural that my spirituality spills over into other areas of my life, including my songwriting. It took me forever to actually record this song for a whole lot of boring reasons, but the writing of this song only took me about an hour…..like a year ago or something….like I said, it took me forever to record the song. So, when I wrote the song, it was one of those great times when it was just “there” and it came to me after I had spent some time in prayer thinking about how amazing God’s love must be for me that he actually puts up with me and all of my failures and weaknesses and still loves me in spite of that. I don’t think I would have the patience to put up with me all the time if I were God. Thankfully, I’m not!
For this song I had the opportunity to fully explore my new guitar, my Epiphone Dot, and all of its various tonal possibilities. All of the guitar parts you hear in this song are played on the same guitar. This song also gave me the opportunity to finally play that drum solo that Ringo taught me a while back. I have wanted to do a song that was outside the folk and acoustic genres……..Without further adieu, here is my blues-rock contribution to my future gospel album: Saving Grace
This is a song that speaks to me about the outpouring of God’s grace and love that is occurring all over the world and the message that even the most afflicted and poorest among us, such as this woman and child from Sudan, are loved by God and should be loved by us.
