Musing Mana 13 - Always There Remix

On Mothers Day 2008 I released Musing Mana 5, Always There for my mom. It’s one of the first songs I wrote, and arguably fairly cheesy, but hey, it was “for mom” so she had to like it.

That version was, believe it or not, and I suspect that you probably will believe it, recorded on a 1980′s era Sharp Ghettoblaster boombox tape recorder out on the workbench in my garage! Since the recording is all on one track…voice and guitar mixed together, there is not a lot one can do to improve the basic performance, and compounding that I recall that the cassette recorder in that boombox had a bit of wobble.  Anyway, I decided to try anyway to stretch my home recording engineer muscles a little bit. In this iteration of Always There we have some wonderful string players helping out that I am certain would make old Blue Eyes proud along with a bit of autotuning to correct the tape wobble and some added EQ to the original recording to try to balance the “boominess” of the guitar with my challenged vocals. By the way, during the guitar intro, the little bang sound you hear in the background is my wedding ring bumping against the guitar neck and I decided to leave that part in because there was no way to remove it and keep things seamless…let’s call it a bit of live ambience.  So, without further adieu I give you Always There – Remix.
