Musing Mana 8 – Do You Really Believe?

Why did I write this song?

Do You Really Believe is a song that began as a dialog between God and me one day after I had been praying and came across the Scripture verse Isaiah 40:28-29:

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

What came from that is a love song really.  Initially, it was a love song from Jesus to me to help me in my journey on the days where I have gotten lost in the jungle.  (Think of Jesus’ parable of the sower and the seed and the weeds that sprang up….some of us encounter weeds….sometimes my weeds have seemed like a jungle!)  For those days where I lost sight of The Compass and wandered off the path.  I think it was meant as encouragement to me to maintain my hope, because as Christ, he found his way through this same jungle.  He fell too on the Via Della Rosa.  He suffered unimaginable pain stretched out there on that tree as the sins of all men and women that have ever lived or ever will live were brought to bear upon His shoulders.  As he died there on Golgatha I think Jesus saw every horror…past, present and future….including our modern day evils committed by the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and the abortion industry…..coming directly upon Him, the perfect, white, sinless Lamb of God.  But, as this massive load of sin approached Him, Jesus maintained His faith in what the Father had promised, “On the third day, I will raise you up.”

True love means dying to yourself…thus, from death comes new life.  “I make all things new.”

Knowing this, I can take comfort that my sufferings pale in comparison and they need not be endured alone and for no one’s good.  Every one on earth will experience trials of some sort in their life.  So, asking “why?” is a waste of time.  I can instead ask “how?”  “How can I use this experience?”  I can commit and unite my trials to those of Christ and as sister used to say, “offer them up” for some poor soul. Today, I offer up this song to you in the hope that it might be whatever you happen to need today in your own unique journey through life.  So, my friends, here is the song.
